NORFOLK, VA - A hat trick by senior forward Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) and an assist by senior midfielder Heather Vaughan (Virginia Beach, VA) helped the Lady Monarchs defeat Towson 3-1. Today's game marked the last regular season home for six seniors. Old Dominion is 12-6-0 overall, 6-5-0 in the CAA, their best record since 1998. Towson drops to 8-9-3 overall, and 3-6-2 in the CAA.
Towson took an early lead as Alison Reinhart knocked in a shot from 20-yards up the middle at 25:05. ODU fought back and five minutes later Beeman connected with the left corner of the net off a header from Vaughan to tie the game in the 30th minute. At 69:13 Beeman found the net again off a pass from Katie Watson (Woodbridge, VA) to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of the Lady Monarchs. The third goal by Beeman came in the 78th minute when a penalty kick brushed off the hands of the Towson keeper Brandi Daniels and rolled in to the right side of the net. Beeman finishes the regular season off with three assists and a team-leading 16 goals.
Old Dominion out shot the Tigers 20-7, and held a 5-2 corner kick edge. Freshman goalkeeper Colby Owen (Virginia Beach, VA) make six saves in today's game giving her 57 saves for the regular season and a 1.09 goals against average. Senior defender Kim Snyder (Virginia Beach, VA) put in a great defensive effort clearing two shots from the box that could have resulted in Tiger goals.
Old Dominion qualified for the CAA women's soccer tournament. They are tentatively scheduled to open play Tuesday at James Madison at a time to be announced.
