DAY ONE RESULTS: Men's Swimming And Diving Tied For First; Women In Ninth

FAIRFAX, Va. -- After one day of competition at the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimming and Diving Championships, the Old Dominion men's squad is tied first place, while the women are currently ninth.

The men's team garnered 74 points along with defending champion UNC-Wilmington after capturing the top time in the 800 free and second in the 200 medley relay. George Mason sits in third place with 64 points, followed by Delaware in fourth with 60 points, Drexel and William & Mary in fifth with 54 points apiece, and Towson in seventh with 48 points.

The Monarch's 800 free relay team, comprised of Patrik Balint, Mikael Ramkvist, Kristofer Hagg, and Chad Gangwer, was Old Dominion's top finish on the day as they placed first in a time of 6:42.52. The 200 medley relay squad of Balint, Johan Lundberg, Vincent Pastore, and Wesley Murai clocked in second place time of 1:31.37 in their fastest effort of the season.

The Lady Monarchs meanwhile have collected 50 points. George Mason leads the women's side with 109 points, with UNC-Wilmington in second with 79 points, and Northeastern sitting in third with 75 points.

The women's 200 medley relay team of April Barrientos, Jennifer Sargent, Hannah Kess, and Liza Moiseeva placed seventh in the event with a time of 1:46.24. The 800 free relay squad with Kelli North, Diana Hurst, Moiseeva, and Caroline Larsson placed sixth in the event. They logged a time of 7:37.56. Both relay squads posted their best times of the season in their respective events.
