Loughton To Play In Europe

NORFOLK, VA--Three-time All-CAA selection Alex Loughton ('06, Perth, Australia) has signed with Aguas De Valencia-Gandia in Valencia, Spain. The squad is a member of the LEB which is the second division in Spain.
Loughton completed his career at ODU with 1,646 points, 952 career rebounds and 159 career steals. He ranks tenth all-time at ODU in scoring, sixth in rebounding, seventh in CAA career rebounding and eighth in ODU career steals.
ODU's first ever pre-season All-American (2005 by STREET AND SMITH'S) is a three-time NACDA 1-AAA National Scholar and a third team Academic All-American by ESPN the Magazine/COSIDA.
Loughton had NBA tryouts with New Orleans, Toronto, Orlando Washington, Milwaukee and Houston.
"I still have my sights on the NBA down the road, but will focus on strong form in Spain and Europe and hopefully the Olympics in Beijing. " said Loughton. "The summer league in Orlando was a great experience for me. I felt I left a positive impression on the coaches as they vowed to follow my progress over the coming season."
While at ODU, Loughton helped lead the Monarchs to an NCAA and NIT appearance. The Monarchs were 69-28 his last three seasons at ODU, tying the school's mark for the most wins in a three-year period. That includes the ODU single season record 28-6 mark in 2004-05, and last year's 24-10 record. ODU reached the semi-finals of the NIT last year which is the farthest an ODU men's squad has advanced in a Division I Post season tournament.
Loughton graduated last May with a degree in business marketing.
