Lady Monarchs Win Season Opener At Kick-Off Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. (Aug. 25) - Junior forward Jen Henley (Chalfont, PA) tallied two goals and one assist in leading the Old Dominion women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Georgia State Aug. 25 at the Clemson/Nike Kick-Off Classic. Old Dominion held the advantage in shots (27-10) and corner kicks (7-6) in picking up the first win of the season. Also scoring for the Lady Monarchs were junior Andi Rowe (Fairfax, VA) and senior Johanna Thompson (Virginia Beach, VA).

Old Dominion broke a 1-1 halftime tie with Thompson's goal at 66:03 in the second half, followed by Rowe's header at 81:43. Picking up assists on the goals were juniors Emily Becker (Virginia Beach, VA) and Melanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ). Henley tallied the final goal for Old Dominion with 2:03 to play.

Old Dominion improves to 1-0 on the season and will next play host and sixth-ranked Clemson on Sunday. It will be the first meeting ever between the two schools.
