NORFOLK, VA. (Jan. 7, 2001) -- Senior swing player Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali) collected her second double double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion University topped James Madison 62-56 in CAA play Sunday afternoon. Old Dominion is now 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the CAA. James Madison drops to 7-6 overall and 0-2 in the CAA.

Old Dominion trailed for the first half of play, going into the locker room down 33-30 despite a last-second 3-point-attempt from Okeisha Howard (Virginia Beach, Va.). The Dukes rallied behind 11 points from Hollee Franklin and a 20-14 rebounding edge to capitalize for the intermission lead.

In the second half, Old Dominion tied the game at 34 behind three consecutive lay-ups from Maiga. After a second tie at 37 and a slim home lead, James Madison crawled back out to a six-point lead behind four points from Franklin. Junior forward Tiffany Thompson (Clinton, Md.) netted a trey to tie the game at 48, also contributing two crucial blocks to allow Old Dominion to surge ahead. She finished with nine points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks.

James Madison owned its final lead at the 2:33 mark. From there, four points from Howard, a lay-up from freshman Monique Coker (Bronx, New York), and a pair of free throws each from Alli Spence (Lafayette, Colo.) and Sharron Francis (West Lanham Hills, Md.) iced the win for Old Dominion. Thompson collected two rebounds to allow Old Dominion to run the clock out during the last 56 seconds.

The Lady Monarchs shot .339 (20-59) from the floor en route to its 105th straight conference victory. Old Dominion has won 78 consecutive CAA games in the Fieldhouse. The Lady Monarchs forced twice as many turnovers (24 to12) in the victory.

Franklin finished the game with 15 for James Madison while Allyson Keener and Nadine Morgan added 11 each.

Old Dominion hosts William and Mary on Friday in the Fieldhouse at 7:35 pm
