Happy Holidays From The Lady Monarch Lacrosse Team
Dec. 21, 2004
NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team, along with members of the SAMs (Student-Athlete Mentor) program recently brightened the holidays for those who are less fortunate.
The SAM program is a peer advising program. The members are nominated and elected by their peers with the goal for each team to have atleast one SAM. A SAM on the team can help provide leadership, help teammates with probems, provide support for freshmen, answer questions, and refer teammates to University supports services. SAMs are elected on a yearly basis and any upperclassmen may be chose by their peers to serve as a SAM. All SAMs participate in a training program following elections.
This year, the SAMs, in conjunction with the Monarch Reach-Out Program, donated items such as books, clothing, and toys to the children of the Hampton Roads area who normally go without such things during the year.
Among the teams participating in this year's program were members of the ODU women's lacrosse team. The Lady Monarchs donated stocking stuffers to the drive.
