Endlich, Luiz Head To Semifinals At Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Lady Monarchs' Kerstin Endlich (Neustadt, Germany) and Fernada Luiz (Nova Lima, Brazil) are heading to the semifinals of their respective singles brackets at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational.
Endlich, a junior, moved into the Round of 16 of the Flight A singles bracket right away after Richmond's Beatrice Grasu withdrew because of injury. Endlich sailed through the Round of 16 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over UMBC's Aimee Lim. In her quarterfinal match-up, Endlich defeated William & Mary's Megan Moulton-Levy , 7-5, 6-4. On Sunday, Endlich will look to advance with a semifinal match-up against the bracket's top seed in Olga Borisova of Virginia Commonwealth. Borisova was ranked 48th in the ITA Preseason Poll.
Luiz, a sophomore, defeated Romana Bucu of Longwood, 6-0, 6-4 to open play in the Round of 16 in the Flight B-1 singles bracket. Luiz then picked up a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Hampton's Elena Besedova in the quarterfinals. She will look to advance to the finals in a semifinal showdown with Liz Perlow of CAA rival Delaware.
In other singles action, Barbara Kerner (Herxheim, Germany) reached the Round of 16 in the Flight C singles bracket. Kerner defeated Washinton College's Samantha Halpin, 6-0, 6-1 in the Round of 32, but then fell in the Round of 16 to Carolina Huignard of Syracuse, 6-4, 6-4. Also in the Flight C bracket, Linda Garder fell to Sevla Gonca of George Washington, 6-5, 6-3.
In doubles play, the Lady Monarch team of Endlich and Luiz reached the quarterfinals. The duo opened with an 8-4 victory over Vaynberg and Zawadzki of Syracuse, 8-4. Their run came to an end in quarter though with a 8-3 loss to William & Mary's team of Moulton-Levy and Fuchs. The Tribe's doubles entry was ranked 56th in the Preseason ITA Poll.
