NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University assistant basketball coach Travis DeCuire announced his resignation from the Monarch coaching staff to join Mike Montgomery's staff at the University of California-Berkeley. DeCuire served as the Monarchs assistant the past five seasons.

"I am very happy for Travis both personally and professionally," said ODU head coach Blaine Taylor. "It's a very positive thing when a program can serve people. Travis was a very loyal contributor to the growth of this program and will now shift gears and follow his career path."

"The path throughout my career has been on the footsteps of Blaine Taylor," said DeCuire. "My dream of becoming a head coach has been as important to me as much as I have enjoyed my career at ODU. I want to thank Coach Taylor for believing in me and for the opportunity of coaching here. I hope to make the same steps as Coach Taylor did when he was an assistant under Mike Montgomery."

Prior to coming to ODU, DeCuire was head basketball coach at Green River Community College in Seattle, WA. After taking over the reigns in 2001 he took the program to the NWAACC championship in just two years while posting the school's first 20-win season in over 20 years. He was named the NWAACC Coach of the Year.

DeCuire was also a successful high school coach at Sammanish High School in Bellevue, WA. He led that school to two conference championships, a state tournament appearance and three consecutive district tournament appearances.

As a point guard for Taylor at Montana from 1991-94, DeCuire earned All-Big Sky honors his junior and senior years, in addition to being named the team's MVP for two straight years. DeCuire is the University of Montana's all-time assist leader with 435 in three seasons. He also owns the school's single season assist record of 199 in 1993-94 for a 7.1 per game average.

DeCuire graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in business marketing in 1994. Travis and wife Sabrina were married in August of 2006.

The Monarch program has won a school record 94 games the last four years earning post season play each of those years. ODU won the CAA title in 2005 and advanced to the NCAA's. The Monarchs earned an at-large berth to the NCAA's in 2007, and reached the semi-finals of the NIT in 2006. This past season, ODU reached the quarterfinals of the inaugural College Basketball Invitational.
