NORFOLK, Va. -- After the first regular season weekend of the year for the ODU women's soccer team, senior forward Shavon Knight (Waldorf, Md.) was named CAA Co-Player of the Week. The Lady Monarch scored a pair of goals, including the gamewinner, at High Point University in the season opener last Friday. The first goal was her seventh career gamewinner and the second gave her 60 career points.
The Lady Monarchs opened the 2008 season with a 3-0 win at High Point, with Knight leading the way with her two. The first, the gamewinner, came just two minutes into the second half. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Kukura passed a long lead ball ahead to Knight who then slipped the ball past the keeper for the goal. The second goal, the 26th of her career, came just under 13 minutes later, as she collected a loose ball rebound on the goal line and walked it in for the goal.
The game gives her 26 career goals and 60 career points, trailing Jennifer Gillespie by just one goal and three points for fourth all-time in ODU history.
Knight shares the weekly honor with Georgia State's Kay Harbrueger who also had a two-goal performance in a win.
