Jan. 16, 2007
NORFOLK, VA -- With a fourth place finish at the Virginia Duals, there was ample time for the Monarchs to impress the conference. For the third time in four releases, the Monarchs are represented in the Colonial Athletic Association's weekly awards. Junior Nick Pullano was named Co-Wrestler of the Week after going a perfect 6-0 at the Duals and for the second time this season Chris Brown was named Conference Rookie of the Week.
Pullano, a junior from Chesapeake, Virginia, went 6-0 at the Virginia Duals including another technical fall to add to his team-leading five for the season. The Monarch has yet to lose a dual bout this season good for a 9-0 record. This weekend he compiled a tournament-high 60 match points and his 22 team points was third most in the tournament.
Pullano shares the honor with Sacred Heart's Kevin Fox.
Chris Brown, who was named Rookie of the Week for the first part of the season, earned his second honor this season after going 5-1 at the Virginia Duals. He added two major decisions to his team-leading nine and earned his fourth pin on the year. His only dual loss on the year came against Kent State's ranked grappler, Kurt Gross, by two points. Brown had defeated Gross 3-2 the day before. The redshirt freshman improved to 8-1 in dual competition and is 26-8 overall.
Brown's second honor is the third Rookie of the Week award the Monarchs have garnered this season. Kaylen Baxter earned the title for all competition from December 18-January 8. Pullano joins teammate David Mendoza as ODU's second Wrestler of the Week this season.
