Freshman Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) scored two first half goals to lead the Old Dominion women's soccer team to a 3-0 non-conference shutout victory over Radford on Wednesday. Kristen Bailey (Hamilton, VA) made seven saves en route to her second shutout of the season, ODU's third.
Beeman took passes from Kasey Johnson (Va. Beach, VA) and Heather Vaughan (Va. Beach, VA) to give the Lady Monarchs a 2-0 lead they would never relinquish. The win is the second in a row for ODU (4-8-1/1-2-1), which is a season high winning streak. Fellow rookie Danielle Huesser (Hummelstown, PA) added her second goal of the season in the second half off a feed from ODU scoring leader Ashley Kramer (Jefferson Hills, PA) to put her team up 3-0.
ODU outshot Radford (8-2-1) 19-12 as they snapped a seven game unbeaten streak for the Highlanders. The three goals are the most scored against RU in a game this season.
The Lady Monarchs will make their way back to Norfolk for two conference games this weekend. They host Hofstra on Friday at 7 p.m. before a contest with Drexel on Sunday at 1 p.m. ODU now stands seventh in the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA). Only the top six teams make the championship tournament, which takes place next month at the Va. Beach Sportsplex.
