Aug. 12, 2008
NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion University women's lacrosse team was named one of 50 Division I schools as an IWLCA Academic Squad and three Lady Monarchs earned the distinction of IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. Sara Larson was named to the Academic Honor Roll for a second consecutive year and was joined by rising seniors Brittany Washko and Lindsey Belle for their stellar academic achievement.
The team earned the honor for a second consecutive year, as they maintained a team GPA of over a 3.00 in 2008. The Lady Monarchs are joined by James Madison, Hofstra, and Towson as representatives of the Colonial Athletic Association.
Larson, who graduated in the Spring with a degree in English with a minor in political science, finished the year boasting a 3.61 GPA. She was Old Dominion's starting keeper last spring playing in all but 97 minutes of the season, logging 682 minutes in between the pipes. She helped lead the team to a program-best four wins to start the season and averaged 12.21 goals against in her senior campaign.
Washko, a dental hygiene major, has a cumulative GPA of 3.94 after three years in the ODU program. She was a sparkplug both offensively and defensively for the Lady Monarchs in 2008, as she led the team in groundballs (30) and caused turnovers (21), while also grabbing five draws. She scored her first career goal against #9 George Mason and started in all 13 games for ODU.
Belle, majoring in English, has a 3.5 cumulative GPA as she heads into her senior season. An absolute stalwart on defense for the Lady Monarchs, she started every game she played in for the third straight year. She anchored the ODU defense, grabbing 26 groundballs, causing 15 turnovers, and pulling down seven draw controls, all while constantly marked the opposing teams best player.
