Lady Monarchs To Play Pair of Undefeated Teams at N.C. State Tournament
Sept. 4, 2003
NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion Women's Soccer team (0-1-0) will be playing two undefeated schools, Villanova and Tulane, this weekend at the Summit Hospitality Invitational in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Lady Monarchs kick off the tournament Friday, Sept. 5 at 5:00 PM against Villanova (2-0-0) and will play Tulane Sunday, Sept. 7 at noon. Both match-ups will be mark the first time ODU has played either team.
ODU comes into the tournament hoping to earn their first win of the season after a close 4-3 double-overtime loss August 29 on the road against UNC-Greensboro. Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) scored two goals, including a penalty kick to lead the Lady Monarch effort. Goalkeeper Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting, PA) came up big with eight saves in more than 107 minutes of play.
The Lady Monarchs have shown promise this season, narrowing losing against nationally-ranked Duke (#10) 3-2 in an exhibition match. ODU has many starters returning from last year's squad, including Team MVP Sarah Raible (Louisville, KY) and Diane Baucom (Virginia Beach, VA).
The hosts, N.C. State, also come into the tournament undefeated, with a 2-0-0 record. N.C. State plays against Tulane Friday, Sept. 5 and against Villanova Sunday, Sept. 7.
