Penicheiro & Maiga Lead Sacramento to WNBA Finals

SACRAMENTO, CA.-- Former ODU Lady Monarch's Ticha Penicheiro ('98) and Hamchetou Maiga ('01) helped lead Sacramento to a sweep of both Houston and Los Angeles as they will return to the WNBA Finals.

The defending champion Monarchs will play Detroit in the best of five for the WNBA crown beginning Wednesday in the Motor City at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

Sacramento capped their return with a 72-58 victory at LA, sweeping the series, 2-0. Ticha Penicheiro, who was inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame last April scored three points and dished out three assists. Hamchetou Maiga came off the bench to add four points, three assists and three rebounds.

Penicheiro started all 34 regular season games for Sacramento with a 5.4 average in points, 1.9 steals and 3.4 assists. She ranks ninth in the WNBA in steals and 14th in assists. Maiga started seven games this year, averaging 5.2 points an 2.1 rebounds.
