Lady Monarchs Top Temple in Field Hockey, 8-1

PHILADELPHIA (October 16) -- Old Dominion's field hockey team topped Temple, 8-1, as Marjolijn van der Sommen (Leiden, Netherlands) and Marina DiGiacomo (Mendoza, Argentina) led the way with three goals apiece, while Kim Miller (Virgina Beach, VA) had a goal and three assists. The Lady Monarchs improve to 11-4-0 on the season.

Van der Sommen started the scoring in the first half at the 32:08 mark with an assist by Kim Miller. Temple later knotted the game at 1-1 when Jess Grisafi scored with a Juliann Leskew assist.

The rest of the way it was all Lady Monarchs as DiGiacomo scored at 26:50 and again at 26:07 on a penalty stroke. Van der Sommen made it 4-1 Old Dominion with her second blast at 25:25, while DiGiacomo added her third strike of the first half to make it 5-1 at halftime.

Early in the second half, Miller got into the scoring, ripping a shot in at 25:06. Laura Steadman (Virginia Beach, VA) then made it 7-1 ODU at 11:26. Van der Sommen added her third goal with just four seconds remaining to cap the match at 8-1.

The Lady Monarchs return to action tomorrow as they travel to College Park, MD, to take on the Maryland Terrapins. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
