PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Old Dominion's Varsity Four came in second in the battle for the Maragaret McNiff Trophy in the finals of Saturday's Dad Vail Regatta. In addition to the Lady Monarchs' Varsity Four, the Frosh/Novice Four also reached the finals.

Three of ODU's boats - Frosh/Novice Four, Varsity Four, & Varsity Eight - started the day in semifinal heats.

The Varsity Four once again won its heat finishing in a time of 7:33.15, three seconds ahead of second place Robert Morris and 10 seconds ahead of third place Drexel to advance to the finals and a shot at the Maragaret McNiff Trophy.

The Frosh/Novice Four took second in its semifinal to advance to the finals later in the day. Crossing the finish line six season behind first place Fairfield, the Lady Monarchs held a 10-second margin over third place Amherst.

The Varsity Eight was also in action in Saturday morning's semifinals, but did not advance to the afternoon finals just missing out with a third place finish. Duke and Buffalo took first and second respectively to advance to the finals, while ODU finished ahead of fourth place Dayton by a two-second margin as well as entries from Connecticut and Lehigh.

Although the Varsity Eight missed out on competing for the Evelyn Bergman Trophy in finals they raced again in the Second Finals where they placed third. With only four seconds separating four of the six boats, the Lady Monarchs took third with Drexel and Dayton ahead of the Lady Monarch boat by less than two seconds.

In Finals, the Frosh/Novice Four took the water first and finished in sixth place overall.

The Varsity Four then went on to collect second place for the second consecutive season. The Lady Monarchs crossed the finish line just over four seconds behind first place Drake and just over two seconds ahead of third place Duke. Old Dominion also finished ahead of fourth place Fordham, fifth place North Carolina, and sixth place Robert Morris.
