NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion wrestling Monarchs (4-1) dropped the Delaware State Hornets (0-6-1) in dual action at home Tuesday night by a score of 48-0. ODU won all ten weight classes for the shutout, including a pin by sophomore Jesse Strawn at 184 lbs and three major decisions. ODU returns to the mat this weekend at the Virginia Duals at nearby Hampton Coliseum. The event begins Friday, January 11 at 9:00 am with ODU's first match beginning at 11:00 am against Lock Haven.

The point differential was the second most for a victory in Coach Martin's four-year career at Old Dominion, shy of the record 55-point differential set against Wagner in 2004-05 during his first year by just seven points. It was also the first shutout for ODU since the Wagner dual.

"Our guys wrestled well tonight," said assistant coach Jon Sioredas. "This gives us something to build on for this weekend at the Virginia Duals. It should give us a little bit of momentum."

ODU jumped to a 4-0 lead when redshirt freshman Billy Chamberlain notched his first career dual victory in a 9-1 major decision. The Monarchs would then add 18 points to the team total as the Hornets forfeited the next three weight classes.

The next match of the night was the 157-lb bout, where Dan Rivera earned his fifth win of the season with a 6-2 win over Kyle Robinson. His win put the Monarchs up 25-0 and brought redshirt sophomore Chris Brown to the mat for the 165-lb bout.

Brown jumped to a quick 5-0 lead less than a minute into the match, with a takedown into a 3-second nearfall that nearly ended in a pin of his opponent, Brandon Gardner. Gardner would avoid the pin, but Brown kept on the offensive, tallying 10 points on the Hornet wrestler in the first three and a half minutes before head coach of the Hornets, Reggie White, pulled Gardner for the medical forfeit.

With the match won 31-0 with four bouts to go, the Monarchs did not shy away, winning the upper weights as well. Redshirt senior Nick Pullano earned the second major decision of the evening putting up 15 points on Kyle Skinner and Strawn battled his way to his team-leading fourth pin during the second period of his match.

David Mendoza put away Shawn Nowrey 12-1 at 197 lbs and in the tightest match of the evening, true freshman Andy Totusek won in the first tiebreaker, 2-1. After battling to a 1-1 tie with Zeb Davis of Delaware State, neither wrestler was able to score in the first sudden victory overtime period. In the tiebreaker, Totusek got the escape just four seconds in and didn't allow Davis to get up during the second thirty for the win.
