Women's Lacrosse Rebounds With 11-5 Victory Over Temple

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The No. 13 Old Dominion women's lacrosse team handed the Temple lacrosse team its third straight loss to a nationally-ranked team as the Lady Monarchs defeated the Owls, 11-5 at Geasey Field. Junior midfielder Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoniexville, PA) led the squad with seven goals and two assists.
The Lady Monarchs improved to 7-3 on the year, while Temple fell to 4-4.
Old Dominion raced out to a 4-0 and never look back, with Wosczyna scoring three of the Lady Monarchs' first four tallies. However in the second part of the half, Temple outscored Old Dominion 3-1, pulling within two 5-3 at the intermission.
In the second half the Owls struck first at 28:51 to trim the ODU lead to one at 5-4. Within three minutes though, senior Marlaine Smith (Gaithersburg, MD) and junior Erin Lindsey (Audobon, PA) responded by netting back-to-back goals to push the Lady Monarchs lead to 7-4 with 25:06 left. The Owl offense managed just one more goal the rest of the way, while Wosczyna lit up for three of Old Dominion's final four goals.
Junior attack Danielle Hensil (Havertown, PA) had two goals in the win. Junior Molly Coane (Bayshore, NY) added in two assists and sophomore Melody Shotwell (Fairfax Station, VA) also registered an assist in the victory.
Old Dominion netminder Michelle Gannon (Delmar, MD) made seven saves in net.
Gannon, Wosczyna, and Smith each had three groundballs. Redshirt freshman Sarah Wosczyna (Phoniexville, PA), her sister Suzanne, and Smith also led the squad with two caused turnovers apiece. Smith also led the Lady Monarchs three draw controls.
The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team will return to action in a week when they return to CAA action against Hofstra on April 6 in Hempstead, NY.
