NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion redshirt freshman James Nicholson (Des Moines, Iowa) earned his second CAA Honor of the season this week as he was named the CAA's Wrestling Rookie of the Week. The 125-pounder went 4-1 this weekend at the CAA Duals, including an overtime win over #10 Dave Tomasette (Hofstra). He helped the #22 Monarchs capture four wins at the Duals, improving their season record to 12-3. It is the third straight week and ODU newcomer earned the honor.

Nicholson's only loss on the weekend came to #20 Steve Mytych (Drexel) in a tight 3-6 decision. He earned a major decision over Binghamton's Tyler Mamberg, shutting him out 8-0. He also had a shutout victory against Boston University's Joey Whitaker, 6-0, and a forfeit win over Sacred Heart. The 8-6 sudden victory win over Hofstra's Tomasette was the second time he dropped the Pride grappler, both times Tomasette was ranked in the Top Ten in the nation.

Nicholson has won 13 of his last 15 bouts, improving to 24-9 on the season including an 11-3 mark in duals. The only two losses in that stretch came to nationally ranked foes. He is currently ranked as high as 13th by Amateur Wrestling News and 14th by the USA Today/InterMat/NWCA polls.

ODU slid up to second in the conference this week with their performance at the CAA Duals. Hofstra, with a perfect 5-0 mark in the CAA is ahead of the Monarchs, who are followed by Rider, George Mason and Binghamton in the top five. Drexel, Boston University, Campbell and Sacred Heart round out the nine teams in the conference in that order.

Old Dominion will host the Bucknell Bison on Sunday, January 27 at 1:00 pm. It is a Spirit Match and students are admitted free with ID. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for faculty/staff, seniors, children and military personnel. The match will be streamed live online via Monarchs All-Access at
