Monarchs Move Up to 13th In Mid-Major Top 25

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Monarchs (8-3) climbed two places to thirteen in the latest Mid-Major Top 25 poll by ColegeInsider.com. CAA rivals Drexel, Hofstra and VCU are also ranked in the poll, while George Mason and Towson recieved votes.
Four CAA teams are ranked in the latest Mid-Major Top 25 men's basketball poll released on Monday by popular web site CollegeInsider.com.
Drexel (6-2 overall) moved up one spot in this week's poll to #12. The Dragons are riding a four-game winning streak and are coming off an 81-76 triumph at Villanova on Dec. 9. Drexel faces a pair of tough road tests this week, facing 23rd-ranked Syracuse on Tuesday and city rival Temple on Friday.
Old Dominion (8-3 overall) climbed two places to #13. The Monarchs rolled past UAB 56-42 on Monday night for their sixth win in the past eight games. ODU also ranks 57th in the latest CollegeRPI.com ratings.
Hofstra (6-3 overall) remained at #15 in this week's rankings after topping St. Francis (NY) last week. The Pride is on a six-game winning streak after opening the season 0-3. Next up for Hofstra is a Friday night clash with 23rd-ranked Syracuse.
VCU (8-2) moved into the rankings for the first time this season at #22. The Rams increased their winning streak to six by beating UAB 53-44 last Saturday. All eight VCU wins have been by nine or more points while their two losses were by a combined total of four points. The Rams host Delaware on Wednesday in their CAA opener.
The CAA had the second-most teams of any conference in the Mid-Major Top 25. The Missouri Valley led the way with five representatives, while the West Coast Conference was third with three.
ODU returns to action on Dec. 29 when they host defending Big South Champion Winthrop who ranks seventh in the poll. Marist, who defeated ODU earlier this season ranks sixth.
