Monarchs To Host Rider Tuesday Night In CBI First Round

NORFOLK, VA-- Old Dominion will host Rider University (23-10) Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Constant Center in the first round of the CBI Tournament.

"What a blessing," said Head coach Blaine Taylor. "We not only got an invitation, but a home game as well. The team is really excited and ready to go. Rider has a fine team and one of the nation's top big men in Jason Thompson."

Rider is led by 6-11 senior standout Jason Thompson who averages 20.6 points, 12.0 rebounds and is shooting 56 percent from the floor. Ryan Thompson is averaging 14.7 points per game and Harris Mansell is at 13.7 points per game and is shooting .442 from three point range. members of the Metro Atlantic Conference.

ODU and Rider have met twice before. ODU defeated the Broncs, 87-66 in 1976-77 and 93-46 in 1985-86.

In ODU's East bracket is Virginia and Richmond who play Tuesday as well. In the west is Washington vs. Valparaiso and Nevada against Houston. In the South is UTEP against Utah and Tulsa against Miami-Ohio. The Midwest will have Bradley against Cincinnati and Ohio against Brown.

TICKET INFO - Tickets for the event go on sale today at 5 p.m. at, at the Constant Center box office and by calling 1-888-3Coxtix. All tickets will be general admission, with ODU season ticket holders having preferred rights to their same seats. Tickets are $13 for adults, $9 for youth 17 and under, ODU faculty and staff, senior citizens and military, and $7 for groups of 20 or more. ODU students will be admitted free with a valid University I.D.

The arena gates will open at 6 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. for VIP level seating. ODU Big Blue Club and VIP hospitality areas will be open and members are asked to present the post-season ticket in their booklets for admission to these areas.

The winner of tomorrow's contest advances to play the winner of the University of Virginia vs. Richmond game on Monday, March 24.
