Monarchs Continue To Move Up in the Polls
NORFOLK, Va. -- The ODU Football Monarchs moved up one spot in both The Sports Network Poll and FCS Coaches Poll to their highest ranking to date. The Monarchs are at No. 6 in the TSN Poll and No. 4 in the Coaches Poll.
In The Sports Network Poll, North Dakota State collected 94 of the 161 first-place votes and 3,946 points followed by Sam Houston State, which had been atop the poll since the preseason, received 61 first-place votes and 3,897 points.
After Georgia Southern dropped eight spots following its loss to The Citadel, Montana State moved up one spot to No. 3, while also moving up one spot each were James Madison, No. 5 Youngstown State, No. 6 Old Dominion, and No. 7 Northern Iowa (1-1). Appalachian State moved up three spots to No. 8 after its victory over fellow FCS power Montana. No. 9 Wofford and No. 10 Eastern Washington rounded out the Top 10.
They were followed by No. 11 Georgia Southern, No. 12 Towson, No. 13 Delaware, No. 14 Montana, No. 15 Illinois State, No. 16 Lehigh, No. 17 Stony Brook, No. 18 New Hampshire, No. 19 McNeese State, and No. 20 Eastern Kentucky (1-1).
After No. 21 The Citadel, the Top 25 wrapped up with No. 22 Indiana State, No. 23 Stephen F. Austin, No. 24 Jacksonville State, and No. 25 Maine .
The only team to fall from the Top 25 was Central Arkansas.
In the FCS Coaches Poll, the first three spots mirror the Sports Network with North Dakota State a top the standings with 24 first-place votes, Sam Houston State maintaining its No. 2 spot with two first-place votes and Montana State at No. 3.
No. 4 Old Dominion and No. 5 James Madison each moved up one spot after starting the season 2-0 and Northern Iowa climbed one spot to No. 6. Appalachian State also moved up one spot to No. 7 after defeating then-No. 9 Montana, which dropped to No. 12. Youngstown State jumped two spots to No. 8, while Wofford moved up to No. 9.
Georgia Southern fell to No. 10 after the Eagles dropped a 23-21 decision at The Citadel on Saturday. The previously unranked Bulldogs entered the Top-25 at No. 23 this week.
The Monarchs' Oyster Bowl opponent in Delaware moved up one place to No. 14, while an idle Towson Tiger squad dropped back on spot to No. 15. New Hampshire, coming off a loss to Minnesota, drooped back four places to No. 18, while Maine who was idle fell to No. 21 from No. 18.
