Monarchs Open Dual Slate at UNC-Greensboro

The Old Dominion wrestling team opens up their dual schedule on Tuesday when they travel to UNC-Greensboro to take on the Spartans at 4:00 p.m.
Last season ODU went 6-9 in dual meets, including a 2-3 record in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) competition. The Monarchs are 3-0 lifetime against UNCG, but the squads have not met since 1997.
Old Dominion has seen action in three tournaments so far this season: the ODU Invitational, Carolina Open, and Beast of the East. They won six of the ten weight class in the ODU Invite and finished eighth out of 15 in the Beast of the East. Junior Derrell Lorthridge (Wilmington, DE) took fourth in the heavyweight class at the Carolina Open while senior Ben Summerlin (Lynchburg, VA) finished fifth at 174 pounds.
Lorthridge and newcomer Adam Wright (Bridgewater, VA) currently lead the team with 9-3 records. Wright finished third at the Beast of the East with after winning five matches. Lorthridge, who leads the team with six falls, took second at the event.
Old Dominion will go into this matchup ranked seventh in the CAA with four wrestlers receiving conference rankings. Lorthridge is now second in the conference in the heavyweight class while Wright is fourth at 184 and Summerlin is fifth in the 174 class. John Starkes (Chesapeake, VA), who has yet to see action this year due to injury, is sixth at 125.
