NORFOLK, VA -- Freshman Jason Thorpe blasted the game-winning goal in the 98th minute to lead California-Berkeley over Old Dominion, 2-1 in overtime, in the second game of the ODU Stihl Soccer Classic. The Monarchs held a 1-0 lead for 80 minutes before the Bears rallied for the tying goal.

Old Dominion freshman midfielder Michael Tooley (Richmond, VA) scored in the 12th minute of the first half off a short pass by freshman Giovonni Solorzano (Irving, TX) to put the Monarchs up 1-0. Old Dominion would protect that lead until the 80th minute when Cal was awarded a penalty kick after a Monarch foul inside the box.

Ramiro Arredondo took the penalty kick and blasted it just past goalkeeper Chuck Connelly (Rockville, MD) to tie the game 1-1. The Bears carried the momentum into overtime and Thorpe scored the game-winner at the 98:00 mark off Chris Roner's assist.

The Monarchs fall to 2-1-0 on the season as the Bears move to 2-0-1. Both teams return to action on Sunday as Old Dominion hosts Virginia Tech at 2:30 pm and the Bears take on William and Mary at 12 noon.
