Lady Monarch Lax Falls To #5 UVA, 15-8

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team's three-game win streak came to end Wednesday night in Charlottesville as the Lady Monarchs fell, 15-8, to the fifth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers.
The loss drops Old Dominion to 5-4 overall as they head into weekend conference match-ups with James Madison and George Mason.
In net, senior Michelle Gannon (Delmar, Md.) recorded nine saves while sophomore Sarah Larson (Sylvan Lake, Mich.) made three stops between the pipes in 4:22 of action.
The Cavaliers took a 4-1 before Old Dominion managed to rally for three goals and tie the game at 4-4 against the nation's fifth-ranked team. Junior Caroline Jacobs (Gaitherburg, Md.), on the assist from classmate Katie Veneziale (Downingtown, Pa.), and Noone found the back of the net withing thirty seconds of each other followed by a free position goal by Kimener during the spurt. Kimener's goals tied the game with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half.
Virginia however came back by scoring six unanswered goals, including three in a 37 second span, to go into the half ahead, 9-4.
Old Dominion was outscored in the second half of play, 6-4. Noone tallied her second goal of the afternoon early in the half, while Kaelyn Schival (Horsham, Pa.) recorded her first goal of the season and Kimener added in two more during the final 10 minutes of action.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Friday when they host #18 James Madison at 3:00 p.m.. Old Dominion then travels to George Mason in Fairfax, Va. on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
