Independence Golf Club will host some of the nation's top collegiate players when the CAA Men's Golf Championship is held in conjunction with the conference's 2003 Spring Sports Festival. The tournament dates are April 20-22 with the winner receiving an automatic bid into NCAA Regional play.
Old Dominion University is paced by senior Geoff Harris (Reading, England/Henley) who was a member of Great Britain's 2002 Palmer Cup squad. The 2002 CAA Player of the Year, Harris is ranked #34 in the nation and owns the league's lowest scoring average. He has helped ODU to a #92 ranking and is looking to improve upon his ninth place finish at last year's championship.
Seven-time defending champion Virginia Commonwealth University will defend its title after posting a 13-stroke win over UNC Wilmington in last year's tournament. Despite VCU's past success, UNCW appears to be the team to beat. The Seahawks have won four tournaments this year and are one of three CAA squads ranked in the Top 100 by Golfstat (#41 UNCW, #92 ODU and #95 VCU).
Play on the 7,127 yard, par 72 course begins on Sunday, April 20 at 7:12am. Admission is free.
