PURNELL AT ODU Captained ODU's 1975 NCAA Division II National Championship team. Earned College Division All-American honors. Ranks 29th at ODU in career scoring 1090 points Ranks 8th at ODU in career assists 476 (5.3) Still owns the ODU single game steals record with 8 vs. Washington & Lee in 1975.

Coaching Served as an assistant coach for Paul Webb. Head Coach at ODU from 1991-92 to 1993-94 (57-33= .633%) ODU went to post season all three years 1991-92 15-15 CAA Champions/ Played Kentucky in NCAA 1st round 1992-93 21-8 Advanced to NIT second round. 1993-94 21-10 Advanced to NIT second round. DID YOU KNOW When Frank Smith graduated in 1988, he ranked third all-time in NCAA career assists history behind Gary Payton (Oregon State) 939 and Jim Les (Bradley) 884.

Odell Hodge ('97) is only one of 75 Division I players to score over 2,000 points and haul in over 1,000 career rebounds. He scored 2117 career points and hauled in 1086 career rebounds. The only other players in Virginia Collegiate Div. I history to do so are Ralph Sampson (Virginia) with 2225 points and 1511 rebounds, Kenny Sanders (George Mason) with 2177 points and 1026 rebounds, and Jeff Cohen (William and Mary) 2003 points, 1380 rebounds.

Oliver Purnell ('75) has been named assistant coach for the 2003 USA Basketball Men's Senior National Team which will participate in the 2003 FIBA Americas Qualification Tournament for the 2004 Olympic games. Larry Brown will serve as head coach.

Mike Jones ('95) is the new head basketball coach at DeMatha High School in Maryland.
