Golf Tournament and Tailgate Party Highlight ODU Football Weekend

Norfolk, Va. - The Old Dominion University Department of Athletics will host an action filled weekend of events on Oct. 12-13, dedicated to the revival of its football program which will begin play in 2009. A scholarship golf tournament kicks off the weekend, which will conclude with a tailgate party in downtown Norfolk.
The inaugural ODU Football Golf Tournament at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk will take place on Friday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes and ODU merchandise, as well as play along side and interact with Monarch head football coach Bobby Wilder and other ODU officials. At the conclusion of the tournament there will be a brief awards ceremony and dinner for all participants. Tournament costs are $150 for an individual and $600 for a foursome with all proceeds going to the ODU football scholarship fund.
The following day, Saturday, Oct. 13 from 2-6 p.m. the Monarchs will host the ODU Kickoff Countdown Tailgate Party at Town Point Park in Norfolk. Admission is free and it is open to the public. There will be an oyster roast in addition to other refreshments, music and games, as well as a performance by the ODU pep band and cheerleaders. The Monarchs will also unveil the helmet and uniform design that the team will be wearing when it takes to the field in 2009.
