NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball captured another series sweep as they scored a season-high in points with its 84-62 victory over Virginia Commonwealth Thursday night at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

The Lady Monarchs, who won the first meeting 81-70 in Richmond back on January 4th, improve to 11-7 overall and 7-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) having won their last eight games. Old Dominion and James Madison are the only teams left with an umblemished conference mark as the Dukes defeated Delaware this evening in Harrisonburg. Virginia Commonwealth meanwhile falls to 10-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play having their three-game win streak snapped.

It was neck-and-neck for much of the first half with 10 ties, seven lead changes, and neither team able to establish more than a three-point lead until the final minutes of the half. Junior guard T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) tied the game for the 10th and final time at the 1:29 mark knotting the score at 27-27. Her lay-up began a 8-0 run, with six consecutive points coming from Jordan. Old Dominion entered the half ahead, 33-27.

In the first five minutes of the second half, Old Dominion held the Rams without a field goal. Virginia Commonwealth only managed to sink three free throws during the span and watched the Lady Monarchs take a 15-point, 45-30 lead. The 12-3 three Old Dominion used to open the half saw Jordan scoring six of the first eight Lady Monarch points.

Virginia Commonwealth pulled no closed than ten in the second half. Michele Cosel hit a free throw at the 2:28 mark to cut the Ram deficit to 70-60. Old Dominion outscored the Rams the rest of the way, 14-2, as the Lady Monarchs went 11-of-11 from the line.

Senior Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.) posted her first double-double of the year and 10th of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan led the troops with 20 points, the fifth time she has poured in 20 or more points this season. Senior Tish Lyons (Newport News, Va.) was the other Lady Monarch in double figures with 10 points.

The Rams were led by Cosel with 13 point and eight boards. Quanitra Hollingsworth registered another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was her LaKea Jones added 11 points in the loss,

Sophomore Jazzmin Walters (Norfolk, Va.) dished out eight assists, tying both her season and career high.

Old Dominion returns to action on Sunday, January 28th hosting William & Mary at 2:00 p.m.
