CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Old Dominion's sophomore Eidy Igarashi (São José do Rio Preto, Brazil) and junior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) each advanced to the third round of play in the Flight A bracket at the 2005 University of Virginia Men's Tennis Invitational on Friday.

The 2005 CAA Rookie of the Year and winner of the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational of Virginia Beach, Igarashi upset #51 Brandon Wai of Yale in his lone match of the day. He came back after dropping the first set, 3-6, to take the next two sets, 6-3, 6-3. Tomorrow he will meet #62 Tim Krebs of Miami in the third round.

Cancado, currently ranked 99th in the ITA Poll, advanced to the third round with a three-set victory over CAA rival Alex Cojanu of William & Mary, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. In the next round, Cancado will face the winner Brandon Allan and #45 Darrin Cohen of host Virginia still awaiting to be played due to a rain delay in the area.

Junior Dominic Manilla (Greenwood, Va.) also played on Friday in the Flight B bracket. Manilla fell in his appearance, 6-0, 6-1, to William & Mary's Kavi Sud.

The doubles brackets will also begin tomorrow. Cancado and Igarashi, winners of the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational of Virginia Beach, begin their quest for a second invitational title against Sasha Ermakov and Ashwin Kumar of Harvard, the tournament's fourth seed and currently ranked 33rd in the country.

32: #99 Henrique Cancado (ODU) def. Alex Cojanu (WM): 6-3, 3-6, 6-3

32: Kavi Sud (WM) def. Dominic Manilla (ODU): 6-0, 6-1
