NORFOLK, VA-- After a month and a half hiatus from active competition, the Old Dominion Swimming and Diving team is back in action with a pair of meets this weekend at the J.C. Scrap Chandler pool in the ODU Fieldhouse. On Friday night, the Monarchs will host CAA rival UNC-Wilmington at 5 p.m. Admission is free. On Saturday, ODU will welcome conference opponents James Madison and College of Charleston for their annual Scholarship meet. Meet time begins at 9 a.m. with the diving portion and 1 p.m. with swimming events. Admission to Saturday's event is $5, with all proceeds to benefit the ODUIF swimming scholarship fund.
ODU men's swimming and diving has raced out to a perfect 6-0 mark this season, led mostly by strong individual performances from sophomore Patrik Balint (Budapest, Hungary), senior Tyler Haverty (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry), senior Nate Tschohl (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory), junior diver Noah Scully (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem), and many others. Last season, the 10-1 men's team took down JMU 138.5-95.5, College of Charleston 179-59, but suffered their only defeat of the season at the hands of UNC-Wilmington 151-140.
The women's side is currently sitting at 2-5, coming off a narrow loss to George Washington in November. A young crop of Lady Monarchs have led the squad this season, with sophomore Diana Hurst (Richmond, VA), freshman Jennifer Sargent (Chesterfield, VA), and freshman Berengere Abraham (Chambery, France) posting several individual victories. Last year, the women were defeated by all three of their upcoming opponents.
Old Dominion will return to action Friday January 27th as they travel to Fairfax to take on American, Army, and GMU in a quad meet.
