Monarch Sailiors Ranked 6th and 14th in National Polls

NORFOLK, VA - The ODU Co-ed sailing team and the ODU women sailing team are nationally ranked in the latest polls. The Co-ed team is ranked 14th, up from 20th last week, while the Women's team remains sixth. Both sailing teams have put up impressive performances in the early part of the season, with a string of six straight top-10 finishes in regattas and individual sailing events. The ODU sailing team has won 13 national championships and have had 86 All-American selections. Current coach Mitch Brindley has been directly involved in eight of the 13 Monarch championships.
The ODU sailing team will next participate in the Danmark Trophy at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT, the MAISA Women's Singlehanded at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and the Tom Curtis Cup at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. All three events will be held both Saturday and Sunday.
Four of the Old Dominion University fall teams are currently ranked in the latest national polls, including the two sailing teams. The men's soccer team is currently ranked third in the country in three of the four major polls (the team is ranked 4th by College Soccer News). The ranking is the highest in school history and the team's 8-0-0 start is the best since moving up to Division I status. ODU has quality wins over two top-five teams, Stanford and Wake Forest. The ODU field hockey team is currently ranked 7th in the nation, with a 6-4 record, including quality wins over Louisville, Stanford, William & Mary, James Madison, Virginia and the Connecticut.
