Monarchs Tanner Drafted by Hampton Roads Mariners

NORFOLK, VA (February 8, 2000) -- Old Dominion senior forward Jimmy Tanner (Syracuse, NY)continued down his road to success with another achievement on February 6, being selected in the second round (53rd pick overall) of the A-League soccer draft by the Hampton Roads Mariners.

Tanner, a 1999 NSCAA All America selection, was previously chosen by Greensboro in the first round of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) draft.

Tanner completed one of the most successful seasons in collegiate soccer in 1999, scoring 20 goals and adding four assists for the 13th-ranked Monarchs. He was selected as the CAA Player of the Year and earned NSCAA All America third team honors, as well as NSCAA Academic All America first team honors.

The senior ended his Monarch career second all-time in career goals (34) and career points (79) and tied for tenth all-time in career assists (11).
