Mike Anderson, Frank Hassell and Terrance Woodbury played high school basketball in South Hampton Roads, then went on to lead their college teams to the NCAA tournament.

Now, the three are playing in the NBA Developmental League with another common goal in mind: Getting to the NBA.

As the D-League - the NBA's minor-league farm system - opened postseason play Wednesday, Anderson, Hassell and Woodbury were hoping for call-ups.

This season, the league has had a record 50 players promoted to the NBA, including former Norcom standout Vernon Macklin, called up April 8 by the Detroit Pistons, and point guard Jeremy Lin, sent down to Erie before joining the New York Knicks in February and sparking "Linsanity."

While the NBA minimum salary is about $490,000 per season, D-League players make about $13,000 to $25,000, according to an report last year. Anderson, Hassell and Woodbury have been encouraged while crossing paths this season in the D-League.
