Monarchs Defeat William & Mary 3-2 in Overtime

NORFOLK, VA -Senior Forward Kevin McMenamin (West Springfield, VA) scored the game-winning goal for the Old Dominion men's soccer team just over two minutes into the first overtime period, to lift the Monarchs to a 3-2 victory.  Sophomore forward Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY) scored the game-tying goal with just over four minutes left in regulation, while Junior Forward Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO) scored the first goal of the game for ODU, in the first half.  ODU improves to 11-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the CAA.  The Tribe falls to 9-6-4 overall and 4-4-1 in the CAA.  ODU will host William & Mary Tuesday night at 7:00 for the first round of the CAA Tournament.


Brian Cvilikas got things started for the Monarchs, scoring in the 10th minute of the game to give ODU the 1-0 lead.  Kyle Hartley (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) got the assist.  The Tribe answered in the 41st minute when Andreas Nydal scored the game-tying goal.  William & Mary struck first in the second half, when Brendan McCurdy shot the ball from 15 yards, giving the Tribe the 2-1 lead.  That lead stuck for over 30 minutes, until Edson Elcock scored an unassisted goal in the 85th minute to tie the game at 2-2.  Kevin McMenamin scored the game-winning overtime goal, off a feed from Freshman Defender David Horst (Pine Grove, PA).

For the game, the Monarchs out-shot the Tribe 20-5 and had a 14-4 advantage on corner kicks.  With the win, ODU extends their home unbeaten streak to 25 games and their home-winning streak to 21 games.
