Van der Merwe, Csanadi End NCAA Run In Semifinals

TULSA, OK -- Old Dominion junior Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) and senior Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) had their NCAA doubles run come to end on Sunday afternoon with a hard fought three set loss to Georgia's third seeded team of Bo Hodge and John Isner, 3-6, 7-6, 5-7 at the at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
Van der Merwe and Csanadi concluded their year with a 14-6 overall doubles record, which includes an appearance in the finals of the ITA National Indoor Championships and the UVA Fall Classic and the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships.
"Both Izak and Zoltan have had one of the best individual seasons in ODU history," said Old Dominion head coach Darryl Cummings. "Zoltan has emerged as the all time career leader in ODU history and Izak has developed as one of the top all around players in the country."
The Monarch duos posted three victories in their NCAA Tournament run which included a first round victory over Baylor's Benjamin Becker and Matias Marin (6-3, 6-3), both members of the Bear's NCAA Men's Tennis Championship team, a second round win over ninth ranked Simon Rae and Damien Spizzo of Tennessee (4-6, 6-3, 6-3), and a quarterfinals victory over seventh ranked Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta of UCLA (6-1, 6-2).
Csanadi concludes his career at Old Dominion with a 103-46 career singles mark and a 79-50 doubles mark. He holds Old Dominion's all-time career singles win and ranks fourth in all-time career doubles victories.
