ODU Alum Wins Two in Qualifying Round of $500,000 Tennis Championships

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- With a pair of wins in the qualifying round this weekend, former Monarch Izak van der Merwe ('05) is just one win away from joining this week's main draw at the ATP $500,000 Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.

Van der Merwe could earn a spot in the main draw after a pair of victories in the qualifying round over Donald Young (USA) and Yuki Hombre (IND). The ODU alum defeated each in three sets, dispatching Young in a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 final before winning over Hombre, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

He will face Ryan Harrison (USA) today at 11:00 am for one of the four qualifying slots in the main draw.
