NORFOLK, Va. - Despite four goals from senior midfielder Lisa Bernardini and three goals from senior midfielder Rebecca Hartrum, the Old Dominion University Women's Lacrosse team was not able to stay with Richmond in the second half and fell, 19-12, on Wednesday afternoon at the Powhatan Sports Complex.

ODU (1-2) scored a last second goal late in the first half to pull within two goals of Richmond (2-3) but the Spiders scored nine of the first 11 goals in the second half, including six in a row, to take a commanding 16-7 lead and held on for the 19-12 victory to beat the Lady Monarchs for the seventh time in their last eight meetings.

The Lady Monarchs got off to a fast start as they took a 3-0 lead in the game with goals from senior midfielder Sarah Wright, Bernardini and sophomore midfielder Emily Austerberry. Richmond responded by ripping off six consecutive goals over the next 10 minutes to take a 6-3 lead. ODU would close the gap late with another goal by Bernardini and a last second free position goal by Wright to get within two at the half.

Richmond scored two quick goals out of the gate in the second half but goals by Bernardini and Hartrum early on kept ODU within striking distance of the Spiders before UR's attack reeled off six consecutive goals to bump their lead to 16-7. The Lady Monarchs would score four of the next five goals to pull within five but time would run out on their comeback as they dropped their second straight contest.

Bernardini had a season-high four goals to lead ODU while Hartrum tied her season and career high with three goals scored. Austerberry and Wright each added a pair of goals as well. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Sarah Geary picked up 12 saves on the afternoon.

Caitlin Fifield led the UR attack with a game-high five goals and an assist while Sam Stevenson added four goals and an assist to pace the Spiders. Victoria Roebuck recorded 14 saves in goal for Richmond.

Old Dominion now heads to the west coast for a trip to Oregon where they will face the Ducks at 3 p.m. (eastern time) on Saturday, March 10 in Eugene in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
