Less than a minute into the game, the Lady Monarchs established a 1-0 lead on a Smith goal as Wosczyna recorded the first of five assists. The Tribe was able to pull within two on three occasions in the remaining minutes of the first half, but each time the Old Dominion offense responded with a goal to extend its lead. The Lady Monarchs held a 7-5 edge at intermission.
In the second half, the Lady Monarchs held a five-point advantage, 14-9, with 10:12 left in the game. William and Mary scored three of the game's last four goals, but the Old Dominion offense was able to control the ball in the closing minutes not allowing the Tribe any scoring opportunities.
