Lax Rebounds With 17-4 Victory Over Lafayette

NORFOLK,VA -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team returned to the win column on Sunday afternoon at Foreman Field by downing Lafayette, 17-4. The Lady Monarchs allowed just two goals by the Leopards in each half, while junior Melody Shotwell (Fairfax Station, VA) ignited for six goals and an assist.
Old Dominion, who entered the game on a three-game slide, improved to 3-3 on the year, while Lafayette fell to 2-7.
The Lady Monarchs dominated the game from the opening whistle as ODU leading scorere Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, PA) netted the game's first goal 32 seconds into the contest. From there it was all Old Dominion as the Lady Monarchs outscored the Leopards, 10-2 in the opening half.
In the second half, each team traded goals in the first minutes, before the Lady Monarchs tallied six unanswered goals en route to its 13-point victory, their largest of the season.
In all seven different Old Dominion players reached the back of the Lafayette goal led by Shotwell's six goals. Senior attacker Janine Rodriguez (Davidsonville, MD) had three nets in the victory, while Wosczyna, Kate Veneziale, and Caroline Jacobs each had two.
Fallon Cunningham and Kim Maron had two goals apiece for Lafayette.
Jacobs also collected three groundballs, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls. Wosczyna recorded three control three draws, while Veneziale managed a team-high four draw controls.
The Lady Monarchs will return to action on Friday when they travel to George Mason to open up CAA play. Game begins in Fairfax, VA at 7:00 p.m.
