Joe Pereira Announces Nine-Member Women's Soccer Recruiting Class

NORFOLK, VA  -Old Dominion women's soccer Head Coach Joe Pereira announced their nine-member recruiting class Wednesday.  Seven of the recruits come from Virginia--three are from Virginia Beach--and include two goalkeepers, two forwards, three defenders and three midfielders.

 

"We feel very strongly about the class coming in," Pereira said.  "We're hoping that the quality is a tremendous upgrade to the group.  This class will immediately have a major impact on the group and this is the first time we've been able to land eight Virginia recruits, four local and four from northern Virginia."

 

Elizabeth Brewster

Elizabeth Brewster is a midfielder from Clifton, VA.  Brewster is currently a two-sport athlete at Centreville High School, playing defense in soccer and participating in the high jump for the indoor track and field team.  In soccer, she has helped lead the team to a district championship, a runner-up finish in the regionals and a runner-up finish in the states.

 

Caroline Brown

Caroline Brown, a midfielder and defender, is a three-sport athlete from North Penn High School and Lansdale High School, competing on the field hockey, basketball and soccer teams.  In soccer, Brown has been a captain during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, was named to the 2004 All-Suburban I All-League First Team, 2004 All Intelligencer Soccer Team, 2003 Suburban I All League Second Team and received the 2002 Soccer Goal of the Year award.  She also led her team to a Suburban I championship in 2003.

 

Marilee Mastaler

Marilee Mastaler is a midfielder and defender from Williamsburg, VA.  Mastaler has played defense and midfield for five years at the Hampton Roads Academy under head coach Kelly Alford.

 

Colby Owen

Colby Owen, a goalkeeper, comes from Virginia Beach, VA and Cox High School.  Owen was named 1st Team All-Tidewater, 1st Team All-District, 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team all-State as a junior.  Owen, a team captain, has won the Outstanding Defender Award and has led her team to three district and regional championships and three state quarterfinals.  Cox was ranked 19th nationally in the NSCAA high school poll and was ranked 4th regionally.  Colby Owen is also a captain for the field hockey team and is captain for the Beach FC Travel Soccer squad. 

 

Janna Pearson

Janna Pearson is a forward from Haymarket, VA.  At Stonewall Jackson High School, Pearson was named 2004 district player of the year; she was named to the 2004 Washington Post All-Met Second Team; the Washington Post All Extra Team in 2003 and 2004; the All-District First Team in 2002, 2003 and 2004; the All-Area Team in 2003 and 2004 and the All-Region First Team in 2003 and 2004.  Janna Pearson was named varsity soccer MVP for Stonewall Jackson HS in 2003, athlete of the year for the 2002-03 year, and was the top goal scorer in 2002, 2003 and 2004.  Pearson, the team captain in 2003 and 2004, helped lead Stonewall Jackson to the Cedar Run District Championship in 2002 and 2004.

 

Jennifer Purdum

Jennifer Purdum is a midfielder from Vienna, VA and James Madison High School.  Purdum was named All-District Midfielder during her junior year in 2004. 

 

Lauren Tupman

Lauren Tupman is a goalkeeper from Virginia Beach, VA.  At Kellam High School, Tupman was named First Team All-District, 2nd Team All-Region, 1st Team All-Tidewater, Adidas High School All Region 3 Team and was named the 2004 Metropolitan Scholastic Women's Soccer Player of the Year.  Tupman also plays basketball at Kellam.

 

Katie Watson

Katie Watson, a forward and midfielder, is a transfer from Marshall University, where she led the Thundering Herd in goals (6), assists (4) and points (15) in 14 games, including 13 starts.  At Potomac High School in Woodbridge, VA, Watson was 1st Team All-District and 1st Team All-Region, recording 23 goals and 42 assists.  Watson was also on the cross country and track teams. 

 

Laura Woods

Laura Woods, a midfielder and defender, comes from Cox High School in Virginia Beach, VA.
