ODU Swim/Dive Team Hosts Annual Scholarship Meet
Jan. 22, 2003
The Old Dominion swimming and diving team will host their annual Scholarship Meet this Friday and Saturday, January 24-25, in the JC 'Scrap' Chandler Pool inside the ODU Field House.
The Monarchs will welcome three different opponents to the meet as Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rivals William and Mary and UNC-Wilmington join Davidson in this year's field.
The women's squad will carry a 3-5 record into this weekend's action while the men stand at 2-4. Both teams lost to James Madison last Saturday in their first action since December 7th against Drexel and George Washington.
Against JMU, senior Sarah Mooney (Riverside, R.I./East Providence) accounted for two of the three wins for the Lady Monarchs as she won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:13.63 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:10.83. Junior Jessica Miller (Fairfax, Va./Lake Braddock) took care of the other win, claiming the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.77.
On the men's side, sophomore Tommy Dingus (Falls Church, Va./Falls Church) swept the diving (257.85-three meter; 220.20-one meter), while freshman Jimmy Jones (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.56) and freshman Nate Tschohl (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.25).
This weekend's meet will begin Friday at 4:00 p.m. and continue Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Ticket prices are set at $5.00 a person and are good for both days. All proceeds will benefit the Old Dominion Athletic Scholarship Fund.
