NORFOLK, VA -- Both the men's and the women's Old Dominion swimming and diving teams are in action Friday, January 16, taking on the Retrievers of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. The UMBC meet will be more special than most for freshman Jenny Prosen (Columbia, MD), whose older sister, Jessica, is a junior on the UMBC squad. The meet will begin at 3:00 PM at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool inside the ODU Fieldhouse. Admission is free.
This meet is the first for the Monarchs since participating in the University of Maryland's Terrapin Cup Invitational Nov. 20-22. ODU's scheduled meet against George Washington Dec. 6 was cancelled due to the snowstorm in the Washington, DC area. Both squads bring a 2-3 record to the meet, last dropping both meets to Towson at home November 8.
Freshman Lauren Timby (Rochester, NY) has proved to be one of the most consistent swimmers on the women's team, regularly taking the 500-yard and 1650-yard freestyle events this year. On the men's side, diver Tommy Dingus (Falls Church, VA) has helped the team by taking first place finishes in most of the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events he's participated in.
