Loughton, Hunter, Nance and Waller To Be Presented Awards At Big Blue BBQ

NORFOLK, VA-The annual Big Blue Barbecue is Thursday, May 20 from 5-8 p.m. at the Bank of America Plaza in downtown Norfolk. Head Coach Blaine Taylor announced the following Monarchs will be receiving awards.

Senior guard Troy Nance will receive the " Paul Webb Best Represents ODU Award," Sophomore center Alex Loughton "Team MVP Award," Isiah Hunter " Cal Bowdler Most Improved Award" and John Waller will pick up the "the Mark West Best Defensive Award."

"The fact that four different players were selected by their teammates signals the type of team we had. Different contributions and qualities came out of each of the award winners. We are just proud of how much they grew as players, students and people. The two seniors ended their careers on a winning note with diplomas in hand, as it should be," said Taylor. "Sophomores Isaiah Hunter and Alex Loughton stepped up their game this year and greatly enhanced our teams performance.

Loughton led the Monarchs in scoring a 16.6 points per game and rebounding at 8.7, and steals at 1.7 per game. Loughton was named first team All-CAA and First team NABC All-District. He was also named to the Athletic Directors of America National All-Academic squad. Loughton ranked third in the CAA in scoring, second in rebounding, sixth in steals and fourth in free throw percentage.

Isaiah Hunter, a sophomore was second on the team in scoring at 13.0 points Per game, as he scored 15 or more points 11 times. He was selected third team All-CAA. Hunter ranked second in the CAA in free throw percentage, 13th in scoring and 14th in assists.

Nance, who started 65 career games averaged 4.1 assists per game average which ranked him fifth in the CAA. He completed his career with 457 assists which rank him tenth all-time in ODU history. Nance graduated on May 8 with a degree in sports management.

John Waller averaged 12.6 points per game this year and earned third team All-CAA honors. Waller ranked tenth in the CAA in field goal percentage, 18th in scoring and sixth in three-point field goal percentage. Waller graduated on May 8th with a degree in sports management.

The fourth annual event is being put on by the ODU Hoops Club. Tickets for the event are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. To order your tickets, call the athletic ticket office at 683-5484.

"This is an amazing event, said Taylor. "It's a evening for everyone to have a good time and a chance for the people of Hampton Roads to meet our student athletes and staff."
