Lady Monarchs Defeat Radford 4-1

RADFORD, VA -The Old Dominion women's soccer team returned to their winning ways Sunday afternoon, defeating the Radford Highlanders 4-1 in Radford, VA. Lisa McKenzie (Inverness, Scotland), Becca McLain (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) and Heather Vaughan (Virginia Beach, VA/Princess Anne) all scored goals for ODU, as the Lady Monarchs improve to 7-5-2 overall. Radford falls to 8-5-1.
Freshman forward Lisa McKenzie got things started for the Lady Monarchs, connecting with the back of the net in the second minute of play, off an assist by Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA). Becca McLain extended ODU's lead to 2-0 in the 16th minute, when she scored a goal from 22 yards out. Radford came back and scored a goal in the 27th minute of play--a 20-yarder by Kristen Smith, off a Jonita Hooker assist--to cut the ODU lead to 2-1.
In the second half, Heather Vaughan extended ODU's lead to 3-1 in the 54th minute of the game, scoring from 25 yards out. In the 86th minute, Radford scored an own goal to give ODU the 4-1 victory. The victory is ODU's fourth in their last five games.
For the game, ODU out-shot Radford 17-4 and dominated on corner kicks, 18-0. Senior goalkeeper Kristen Bailey (Hamilton, VA), making her first start of the season, made three saves and allowed one goal.
The Lady Monarchs return to Colonial Athletic Association play next weekend, when they host Drexel Friday afternoon and Hofstra Sunday afternoon. ODU will look to extend their three-game CAA winning streak.
