Van Der Merwe, Csanadi Reach NCAA Quarterfinals

TULSA, OK -- The Old Dominion University doubles team of junior Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) and senior Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) became one of the eight doubles teams to remain playing at the 2004 NCAA Men's Tennis Doubles Tournament with an upset victory over the ninth ranked doubles team from the University of Tennessee.
Van der Merwe and Csanadi over came a loss in their first set to rally for the next two sets against the Vols' Simon Rae and Damien Spizzo to reach Saturday's quarterfinals. The Monarchs claimed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 match victory in the duo's seventh win over a ranked opponent this season.
Their quarterfinal opponents on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa will be seventh ranked Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta of UCLA. Francis and Kwinta earned a three-set 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Antonio Ruiz and Jose Zarhi of Texas in their first round match-up and a straight set, 6-3, 6-3 win over Harvard's Jonathan Chu-David Lingman in the second round.
Van der Merwe and Csanadi are ranked 15th nationally and boast a 13-5 record this season which includes an appearance in the finals of the ITA National Indoor Championships in the fall.
