DREWRY JOINS MONARCHS/ WALDON RETURNS Junior guard Marcus Drewry made his first appearance with the Monarchs at UNLV. The 6-2 guard from Marshalltown C.C. played 11 minutes with two assists. He played 14 minutes at Hofstra. He missed the first half of the season recovering from surgery to repair an unhealed stress fracture in his right foot. While Drewry played high school basketball in Evanston, IL. He was born in nearby Portsmouth, Va. Freshman T. J. Waldon (Lakeland, Fla.) Returned to action against Hofstra. He was out about five weeks recovering from a stress fracture of the third metatarsal bone in his right foot.

JUST LIKE HIS MOTHER??? Drewry's Mother, Karen Drewry was a Virginia High School League All-Star. She once scored 68 points in a game. In 1988, she helped lead Hampton University to the NCAA Div. II National Championship and is HU's fourth all-time assist leader with 352.

CLAY MCGOWEN: The 6-11 sophmore who played only 57 minutes last year has grabbed seven or more rebounds in four of his last six games, and five times thus far this season. He blocked five shots against Memphis.

TROY NANCE CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK Troy Nance was named CAA Player of the Week on Dec. 17. He scored a career high 18 points (14 in the second half) with 7 assists and four steals in the Monarchs 81-67 victory over Coastal Carolina.

GAME TIME CHANGE: *The ODU-W&M game on Jan. 26 originally scheduled for 12 noon has been moved 7 p.m. and will be televised on Comcast Sportsnet..

GREENE PRE-SEASON ALL -CAA: Senior guard Pierre Greene was selected to the CAA pre-season men's basketball All-CAA team by the league's head coaches and media in attendance at media day on Oct. 31 in Baltimore, MD. As a team, the Monarchs were picked to finish seventh.

WALK-ON'S: The Monarchs have two walk-ons in sophomore Andreas Themistocleous (Nicosia, Cyprus) and junior Samir Hickson (Collegeville, Pa.). Themistocoleous appeared in 15 games last year, including a career high seven points against Taylor's Stanford squad in the Puerto Rico Shootout.

GLOBAL SPECTRUM TO MANAGE CONSTANT CENTER Old Dominion University has selected the Philadelphia based firm Global Spectrum to manage the 8,600 seat Constant Convocation Center, which is slated to open in late fall of 2002. The highly regarded company provides management for public assembly facilities across the country, most notably the First Union Center, which is home to the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, as well as facilities at Temple, South Carolina and Rhode Island.

CENTER CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: * General Contractor, S.B. Ballard is ahead of schedule
* Building will be weather tight by March of 2002 to allow for installation of interior finishes and equipment.
* The design for a new Athletic Hall of Fame, to be located in the main lobby of the building is well underway.

DEFENSE All 11 Monarch opponents have shot under 50 percent from the floor. Virginia Tech was held to .298 shooting, the lowest since ODU held American to .259 shooting in 1996. The Hokies scored 19 points in the first half, the lowest since VMI was held to11 in 1982. ECU shot .333
