COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Old Dominion's Arni Arnason (Msfellsbaer, Iceland) competed in his third and final NCAA event on Saturday at the 2009 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Texas A&M. Arnason placed 21st in the preliminaries, just five places back of reaching Honorable Mention All-American status, in the 200 breast. He finished the event in a time of 1:56.54, once again resetting the Old Dominion record, surpassing his previous best of 1:57.61.

Saturday was Arnason's third appearance at the 2009 NCAA Championships. The first Monarch to qualify for NCAA's in the Division I era, he placed 25th in the 100 breast preliminaries (53.89) on Friday and took 42nd in the 50 free preliminaries (19.92) on Thursday.

Arnason concludes the 2009 season having won the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title in the 50 free, 100 breast, and 200 breast. Along with setting new ODU marks in all three events, he also helped establish new Monarch records in the 200 and 400 free relays, as well as the 200 and 400 medley relays.
