Lady Monarch Lax Falls In OT At Temple

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Temple University Owls overcame an 8-1 deficit to send Sunday's lacrosse game against Old Dominion into overtime where they defeated the Lady Monarchs 13-12. Old Dominion was led by sophomore Caroline Jacobs (Gaithersburg, Md.) four goals and three assists, while fellow classmate Ashley Stanwick (Aquasco, Md.) netted four in the loss.
The Owls struck first with Corey Leader coming off the bench to reach the back of the Lady Monarch net just three and half minutes to the contest. However, from there Old Dominion took control of the offense, rattling off eight straight unanswered goals for a 8-1 led with 3:24 left in the first half. Temple had two quick tallies in the final three minutes to cut the deficit to 8-3 at the intermission.
However in half number two, the Owls took control, allowing the Lady Monarchs just three goals and four shots on net. Trailing 11-8, Temple netted three goals in the span of 39 seconds to force overtime.
The Owls would go on to outscore the Lady Monarchs 2-1 in the extra sessions to walk away with the victory.
In goal, the Lady Monarchs' Michelle Gannon (Delmar, Md.) played the entire game making 12 saves.
The loss drops Old Dominion to 2-3 overall, while Temple, fresh off its upset win over #2 Penn State, improves to 3-2.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Monday at Rutgers at 3:00 p.m.
