Monarchs Defeat Delaware In CAA Opener

NORFOLK, VA--The Old Dominion Soccer Monarchs (6-1/1-0) got goals from Zachary Kinney (Portland, TX) and Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY.) to defeat the University of Delaware (5-2-2/0-1), 2-0 Friday night in the CAA openers for both teams. ODU ranks 10th nationally by College Soccer News and 13th by the coaches NSCAA/adidas and have won six straight since losing the season opener to defending national champion Maryland.

In the first half Kinney got a feed from A.J. Kulp (Ephrata, PA) to put the Monarchs on top at, 1-0. In the second half, Trevor Banks (Madison, SI.) fed Edson Elcock on a break a way for ODU's second score. The Monarchs outshot the Fightn' Blue Hens, 24-7 as freshman goalkeeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, VA.) came up with his fifth straight shutout. Jon Curry-Edwards has 11 saves for Delaware.

ODU returns to action on Sunday when they play host to Drexel at 1 p.m.
